Sedation Dentistry in Stettler

Many people experience fear or anxiety during their trips to the dentist. This is completely normal, and our staff is well-equipped to treat anxious patients. We offer sedation dentistry so you can remain calm and at ease throughout your appointment. There are two types of sedation available at our practice: nitrous oxide and oral sedation.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation Dentistry

Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a mild sedative. Stettler Dental offers nitrous oxide to patients aged 12 and up. The gas is inhaled in measured amounts through a mask. You’ll remain awake during the process, but the nitrous oxide will help keep you calm during your dental appointment. You may also experience physical sensations such as tingling or lightheadedness.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation is a stronger form of sedation than nitrous oxide. You’ll be given oral medication about an hour before your appointment to calm you down and keep you relaxed during the procedure. Because oral sedation can affect your motor skills, you’ll need to arrange for a friend or family member to drive you home following your appointment.

IV Sedation Dentistry

IV sedation is a type of general anesthesia administered by an anesthesiologist in a medical clinic setting. Throughout the sedation, the anesthesiologist is there to monitor vital signs and maintain a consistent level of sedation. Although patients are typically still conscious under IV sedation, complex surgeries or procedures may require a patient to be unconscious (general anesthesia).
